New York based artist Kehinde Wiley has gained much acclaim for his beautiful style of traditional painting using modern urban subjects to play the parts of classic conic pieces.
The subjects here are twins Dee and Ricky, who's line I just posted.
Most of the poses and inspiration are straight from pre 19th century paintings and subject matter. He uses young black men and asks them to wear their normal clothes; Some of his shows have the subjects as the hero, some are fallen soldiers, and some are very religious. Very juxtaposed subject matter.
Oh and one amazing thing that a just can't be captured well enough in a picture is how oversized his works are. His exhibits have also featured marching bands and other elements to add to the show.
Check the grandeur of the exhibit in this picture.
Also check out his entire gallery and shows on Kehinde's site.
