The Resurgence of L.A. Gear

For years, yes literally years, I've been in search of a crispy pair of L.A. Lights from L.A. Gear (so I could be as cool as this guy). But since the model was discontinued in the early 90's and L.A. Gear as a company has been seemingly nonexistent for years, it hasn't been the easiest task. Well now with some shakeups in the company, L.A. Gears is finally making a comeback...

Star Shooter Hi

K.A.J. (Kareem Abdoul-Jabbar's old signature model)

Fire Hi

Over the past year L.A. Gear has been teaming up with Sportie LA to slowly implement some retro releases from their Unstoppable line. The most anticipated models of LA Lights and LA Techs (featuring the light up heel) have not yet been released but it was just announced that there are plans to have them out by year's end.

I'll definitely keep you updated on the future releases of the LA Lights and LA Techs, as I've been watching this L.A. Gears comeback project for a while now.

DISCLAIMER:
For those of you who didn't grow up with L.A. Gear, it wasn't always some joke of a line. In fact some of the biggest athletes in the world used to endorse the brand, such as Kareem Abdoul-Jabbar, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Montana, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, and non athletes like Michael Jackson and Paula Abdoul. Crazy right? It was basically Nike/ Reebok/ Adidas before they took over the endorsement game.

Buy L.A. Gears now, exclusively through Sportie LA.

  3. when my parents took me to buy my first pair of sneakers, i had a choice of getting either the Patrick Ewings or LA Lights. I went for the Orange & Blues.

But I've always had a great affinity for LA Gear as it was, like john pointed out, one of the mainstrays of the late 80s early 90s sneaker game.
