Major Lazer is a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operation. His cover is that of a dancehall night club owner from Trinidad and he enlisted the help of long-time allies and uber-producers, Diplo and Switch, to produce his first LP. He fights vampires and various monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket powered skateboard.
Ok ok, if you're STILL confused somehow, Major Lazer is a musical project from Mad Decent artists Diplo and Switch that is described as "Digital reggae and dancehall from Mars in the future, pop culture run through a Jamaican filter!" They worked with many artists on the album, namely Santigold who seems to be highly involved.
Here is the video for their 1st single, Hold the Line featuring Santigold and Mr. Lexx.
If you are still on board and don't want to kill me for showing you this, here is their second released song, Zumbie, which features Andy Milonakis as a brain eating, auto-tuned, crack head, fake Jamaican Zombie.
This is going to be one of those posts where the reaction is "Umm, John, are you serious about this?" OR "Holy wow, this is awesome!" I'm hoping for the latter, cause I am really excited about this project.
Peep more of Major Lazer on his MySpace, and be sure to follow him on Twitter.
There is also an interview that you probably won't understand unless you speak Patois here.
Major Lazer's debut LP "Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do" is releasing on June 16th.
