UNIQLO Wake-Up

Very quietly (possibly due to lack of promotion), UNIQLO has released a barrage of apps lately that fit in with your daily life. The latest is actually a pretty cool, albeit simple, alarm clock called UNIQLO Wake-Up.

Wake-Up plays some peaceful music and a very pleasant female voice tells you the time and weather in an awkwardly melodic way. It worked fine for me this morning, but if you're a heavy sleeper you might want to set your extremely annoying and brash iPhone alarm as a backup.

Available for iPhone, Android, and PC/MAC, you can find it here or in your app stores.

I'll be splitting time between here and The Dap again now. Sorry for the abandonment.

Uniqlo x Jil Sander +J Line Comes to an End

After 2 years total, the collaboration line between Uniqlo and Jil Sander will be coming to an end, as Uniqlo has just announced that the Fall 2011 +J collection will be the very last.

From my first hand experience with the company it seems that the line still did relatively well in America however may have tried to expand a little too aggressively since +J isn't as popular with the Japanese customers. However the line that has been widely acclaimed will definitely be missed in the NYC stores next year but I'm sure will leave room for much more collaborations and options from the company, so don't worry!

And as for this final collection, I definitely suggest checking it out since it'll be the last chance. The cuts, quality and minimalist style are damn good for the prices and it's a pretty good way to get the grown designer look for the low (I guess I'm mostly speaking on the men's line since it's what I've tried on and bought).

Now to just wait and see what Uniqlo has to roll out with next...

Uniqlo +J s/s 2011 Preview

Uniqlo's +J line, designed by Jil Sander, got some shine in a recent issue of Popeye Mag, giving us a look into what we will be seeing this Spring...

The +J line continues to impress with minimal yet eye catching designs, even without all the hype that it initially had. And I'm proud to announce that these guys are my soon to be new employers :-D so safe to say I'll be sporting some of these pieces soon.

100 - A Video By Ibe

Here's another video our boy Ibe shot while I helped him move into his new apartment. In order of first appearance, it features: him, his girlfriend Capri, Me, and our boy Taurean. The awesome song blessing your ear drums is "Say Goodbye to Love" by Star Trak's very own Kenna.

Enjoy.

THE FITS

Ibe is rocking a Flight Club Brooklyn Bridge hat, a DURKL tee, a Ducksworth bracelet, Levi jeans, and Adidas sneakers. (Don't forget that you can get 20% off of DURKL with the "swaggerdap" code)

Capri is wearing a vintage hat from Fabulous Fanny's, a Top Shop shirt, American Apparel leggings, and vintage Charles David boots.

I'm sporting a Stussy hat (and Capri's vintage hat), an E5 Charlie tee, Uniqlo jeans, and Nike Trainer Dunks.

Taurean is decked out in an Obama Promo hat, a Converse tee, Abercrombie & Fitch jeans, and S. Carter sneakers.

FYI - Ibe is an underground music producer that works with dope artists like Mickey Factz, Jade, and Curtis Santiago; but he's also getting pretty good at shooting and editing videos. Be sure to check out his blog.

Unliqlo x Disney

With Jil Sander's J+ line already in the works Uniqlo is set for an exciting Fall season. Well now they have a contract with Disney signed so there will be even more collaborative items coming out in the very near future.

"Jil Sander isn’t the only one joining forces with Uniqlo these days. Mickey Mouse is also linking with the Japanese brand. The casual apparel firm, owned by Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., said Tuesday it has reached a licensing agreement with the consumer products division of The Walt Disney Company to roll out a line of Disney-themed apparel at its stores next month. Details of the project will be released next week."

Uniqlo by Jil Sander J+ Release

The previews came out just a couple of days ago and now there is release info on the J+ by Jil Sanders line for Uniqlo, as well as the official ad campaign...

"Uniqlo will start selling the +J collection in the United States and the United Kingdom on Oct. 1 and in Asia on Oct. 2. Prices range from 1,990 yen, or about $21 at current exchange, for a stretch t-shirt to 14,900 yen, or $155, for a Chesterfield coat. Photos of the products, including tailored shirts, button-down jackets and sweaters, leaked online earlier this week. But on Thursday, Uniqlo unveiled a couple shots from the line’s new advertising campaign, which will break August 24 in GQ Japan. Shot by David Sims, it features black and white images of windswept models Sean Opry and Isabeli Fontana." (above)

Uniqlo by Jil Sander J+ Preview

To keep us all excited about the upcoming Jil Sander J+ line at Uniqlo, there are some sneak preview images surfaces from both the mens and womens collection.

Mens:

Womens:

Looking at the pieces, J+ probably won't drop for a solid month or two but the two lines look nice and clean from this preview. The mens line consists of 40 pieces of knits, suits, button downs, and slacks, of which nothing will cost over $200 USD. Not too bad, especially considering how sick the jacket and suit above look. I wanna say "must cop" but then again I don't wanna look at every 3rd dude in SoHo with my same winter jacket. Maybe it'll be for when I'm outta town.

I'll be sure to keep you all updated on this.

Jil Sander to Design for Uniqlo

After a 5 year hiatus from designing, Jil Sander and Uniqlo have just a announced some big news that she has jumped on board for a design consulting position with the Japanese powerhouse that is Uniqlo.

Jil Sander and Fast Retailing (which owns Uniqlo) chairman Tadashi Yana

From WWD:
Sander exited again. Now the designer, 65, is back in fashion in a segment of the market that is increasingly linking with major designers. H&M has teamed up with a string of well-known fashion names, including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli and, most recently, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons."

The high-end designer teaming up with fashion forward mega-retailers has definitely been gaining steam for a few years now but Sander's new position and name sets some serious precedent in the industry. I think this should be a great fit since even as a low price point retailer, Uniqlo is extremely innovative in design and fabrics, which has carried similar priority in Sander's line (which is now run by Raf Simons since her departure).

Looks like there will be a ton of anticipation for the upcoming seasons of Uniqlo now, the pressure is on.

Adventures in NYC: Back to SoHo

When you spend the majority of your time in Syracuse, NY, heading back down to NYC, even just to browse stores and see the streets is quite the treat. Well after a few months away it was back to good ole SoHo this weekend.

The Lou Reed x Supreme posters were plastered everywhere, and defaced in just about every location too.

The Stephen Sprouse graffiti was already taken off of LV sadly but there was still some decor left. Looked very nice.

Bape just released their neon Skullstas and OG colorway 88 Hi's.

Uniqlo has an awesome display in the front of their store where the mannequin seasonal models usually are. It is extremely miniature outfits from their Spring 2009 collection. Here you can see one of the fits.

The MAC x Hello Kitty was in full effect at the MAC store in SoHo. Very cool store front they have going.

Shots?

Then it was back home, in the nice cold rain.

Not pictured in the pair of Adidas x Jeremy Scott J.S. Wings that I picked up. A damn impulse purchase that I probably can't afford right now, but either way I'll post em up later.

Faces in the Crowd: Mong Kok

1st let me apologize for the Faces in the Crowd hiatus due to a broken computer and the scare of some lost pictures. But now that I have no excuses, )and because we started getting nasty emails and tweets from fans demanding that this section return asap) lets start it up again with Cathleen and Cy who we met in line for milk teas in Hong Kong.

Names: Cathleen & Cy
Age: 17
Job: Students
Favorite Brands: Cathleen - 2 percent; Cy - Undercover
Wearing: Cathleen - Clothes from Mong Kok shops, Fanning Bag, Converse sneakers
Cy - Uniqlo Sweater, Undercover tee, Uniqlo jeans, Vans sneakers, Porter bag
If you could be anywhere drinking your milk tea right now, where would it be?: TST or Causeway

Yea guess they just love Hong Kong, since they just wouldn't go very far with those milk teas. But these girls were really cool cause it took a while to get this done in a very crowded corner between the milk tea place and another place that sells a bunch of food that would probably scare most of you. So thanks again!

We should have one more Faces in the Crowd from Hong Kong and then it's on to .... sighhh ... Syracuse where we might just start Faces in the Crowd-ing ourselves to keep it interesting.

Uniqlo to open store in Singapore

Japanese budget fashion brand Uniqlo is to open 2 stores in Singapore this year

The first store will be in the newly developed Tampines 1 commercial facility in the Eastern area and will open on the 9th April

The second, larger store will open later in the year in June and will be on Orchard Road, in the new ION complex

I am a huge fan of Uniqlo, who manage to produce great looking clothing at a really low price

With a big following in Singapore already I can imagine these store are going to do very well

Uniqlo Introduces Wakamaru

Uniqlo has recently introduced Wakamaru, a robotic staff member, to it's New York store.

Wakamaru is a "walking" talking and thinking member of the staff who's job is to greet and inform the customers on anything going on in the store. Aparently you can also have some basic conversation with her as she shows you around the store.

Pretty cool and innovative on Uniqlo's part as they teamed up with Mitsubishi for the project. As of now Wakamaru is 1 of 1 and resides in SoHo only.

To find out more about the project and to read Wakamaru's blog (yes it is actually updated by the robot, with some assistance I'm sure) check out NewYork-Tokyo.com
