Edwin - "JAPAN" Video

The denim guys over at Edwin put together this fantastic video, simply titled "Japan" that loosely follows the manufacturing process of their jeans, but also gives an amazingly accurate look into everyday life in Japan...

Maybe it resonated with me a little extra for having lived that life, but they captured that working class/ blue collar life in Japan pretty damn well. The people who you might never notice but keep everyday life in order, from the man controlling the subway platform, to the dude in the tiny stand still chef-ing up something for you at 1am. So if the point of this video was intended to strike those chords, it definitely worked.

Check the store locator on their site to find out where you can try on some Edwins yourself.

Adventures in Japan: Kyoto Retreats

As you may or may not be aware, I've recently moved to Osaka, Japan, where I'll be working for the next few months before I move back to NYC to take over the world (so sorry, it has definitely left me little time to post on here). But now that I've been here over a month and settled, I'm making it a mission to post more often and more importantly take more pictures to share. I'll start it off with my recent trip to Kyoto, which unfortunately didn't involve much fashion but it was damn beautiful and I think I got some shots that portray the place and the people well...

Pretty much ever city is built around some sort of water and this portion of Kyoto is especially nice since you can actually go down in the river banks n chill, fish, or find an expensive restaurant to enjoy the view.

It's still eye catching to me, but kimonos are a completely normal part of life here... which is probably why it's odd to them that I'm trying to take pictures all the time.

Especially coming from NYC, its unreal how nice everyone is out here. There's no such thing as "don't talk to strangers", because there's no need! We've even befriended some school kids that commute on the train by themselves at the age of like 7. School kids are especially friendly cause they love speaking the little English that they know.

Can't even describe the randomness of "Mushroom: Pretty Space & Bar"

Delectable hot pot

Especially in the southern part of Japan, takoyaki is super popular, especially as a late night snack with beer

This dude was the man. He felt bad that he couldn't let us in a temple since it was just after 5pm... so he gave us free canned coffee and a great broken English conversation.

Stumbled into some sort of street festival, no clue for what but everyone was decked out, even these little girls in kimonos and dudes marching down the street in some ceremonial fashion...

And you can't escape these people in anime costumes promoting god knows what... but people never get tired of it.

Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see of know more of or what direction you'd like to see these Adventures posts go in. I generally just snap what I find visually cool, but I'm down to hunt down things for you guys (food, fashion, street snaps, signs, whatever tickles your pickle).

Sayonara for now.

Pokémon Jet Fleet from All Nippon Airways

Reason #1,278 that I should move to Japan: All Nippon Airways has an entire fleet (well, 4 planes) that are shrouded in Pokémon! Now apparently this isn't exactly the most recent news, but it's new to me and I was so excited at receiving this email that I had to share the pictures with yall...

Yep, three 747s and a 767 flying through the skies everyday with your favorite Pokémon aboard. Amazing. And ANA was nice enough to break down the designs so that you know exactly which Pokémon will be on the side of your plane.

After seeing this, I seriously have no idea why I'm still living in the states.

Nike Rivalry Pack - Ueno vs Harajuku Terminators

As if everything wasn't already cooler in Japan, NSW just keeps adding fuel to the fire. So to absolutely shit all over our weak "East vs West" aka DJ Clark Kent vs Eddie Cruz (UNDFTD) rivalry series, Nike is introducing the Ueno vs Harajuku rivalry series to Tokyo. This series starts with a set of Terminators...

(FYI: Ueno and Harajuku are 2 popular districts within Tokyo)

The Harajuku pair is nice and subtle, but the Ueno pair is absolutely perfect to me. All black shoe, nice mix of what looks like kevlar on the toe and a rip-stop material on the toe box, plus the laces and eyelet hardware, PLUS the awesomely colorful rear collar for a touch of hidden loud color.

Um, can you tell I want these? But unfortunately they are a Tier Zero release that I would be surprised to see hit stateside. Damn, why don't I live in Japan again?? Oh right, that whole "job" thing...

Bapy to Return in 2010

Female Bape heads rejoice!
Now under new direction, Bape will be bringing back the Bapy line for the upcoming Spring 2010 season.

Not much information past that for the time being but I am really happy to see this news. The 1st time I visited Japan I was lucky enough to check out the original Bapy store before it, and the line, ceased to be. It was awesome to see an entire store dedicated to women, and not only clothes as there were all sorts or accessories and daily goods. Such a difference from the average Bape store that showcases only a corner or so for the women, the store was a refreshing feminine twist on the brand.

Personally I hope that the store reopens as well, but for now we'll have to wait and see...

Nike Terminator Hi by Fragment Design

Hiroshi Fujiwara continues his uber exclusive collabs with NSW, this time with an inverted colorway of his last Nike Terminator Hi.

NOISE on the heel just like the last Terminator and the Tees that HF recently did for NSW Japan. I don't own any terminators but I saw a great pair with the metal studs on the heel, where the silver is above, and I instantly wanted to get a pair. And I actually thought these were Nike BIGs at 1st because of the huge text.

No release date but I would assume, like always with Fujuwara products, these will only see a Japan release. (-_-)
