If you read the news at all then you are probably already aware that Shanghai is the host to the 2010 World Expo, taking place this summer (May-Oct). And just as China did in Beijing for the 2008 Olympics, they went all out! It is by far the most expensive World Expo, with the largest fair grounds , most countries ever participated (over 190), and most expected attendees (over 70 million).
Ok enough boring facts, here is some architectural eye candy that just got sent my way from some friends in Shanghai. They got the sneak peak just a few days before it opened...
Each of those pavilions hosts a country and is basically their place to show off what they have to offer the world. There are also a bunch of shared joint pavilions, because as you can see it is mostly the bigger and more wealthy countries that have their own.
I'm pretty sure it will never be that quiet for the next 4 months so pretty amazing to see it all empty like this. I'll be out to Shanghai to catch the Expo by Summer's end so I'll be sure to get some more picture of the inside experience.
Wonder what they'll do with all of these amazing buildings when the Expo ends??
