Clippings - Devon Aoki for Chanel

This latest Clippings segment features model Devon Aoki in a spread from a '07-08 Chanel campaign...







I must have torn the ad out of a magazine a while back, so no idea where exactly I nabbed this from, but after scouring the internet I was able to find the full set of ads from this campaign. (the final image is the only one I actually scanned, sorry for the poor quality on that one)

Aside from the timeless design, I really love the vintage feel of these shots, and honestly if her hair was done up I would believe that these ads were from another generation. Well executed, and I'm sure shot by Karl.

Clippings - Naomi Campbell in GQ UK

Clippings this week features Naomi Campbell in a fashion editorial from the April 2007 issue of GQ UK, where she appears on the cover. While I do love this shoot, there is nothing amazingly standout about it, aside from my inexplicable fascination with Naomi and past avid readership of GQ UK.

Oh, and WARNING before you scroll down, there is some NSFW (albeit tasteful) showing of breasts through this shoot...

That first shot with her in bed with the gun and the cigarette is one of my favorite pics, period. This shoot was done soon after her legal punishment for assaulting her housekeeper and others, hence the slight motifs in the photos.

Clippings - KiD CuDi and Vashtie in Mass Appeal #50

Clippings is going to be a new segment on SwaggerDap where I give some shine to the forgotten world of print. I seem to amass a decent collection of magazines and catalogs so i'll be posting 'clippings' from these mediums, both new and old.

To kick it off, the 1st clipping is a throw back from one of my very favorite magazines, Mass Appeal. In issue #50, they introduced KiD CuDi as an underground artist to look out for, back when he was still on A-Trak's Fools Gold label...




The picture and issue are from early 2008, before the 10 Deep mixtape, way before GOOD music and before anyone had really heard of the man. He was on tour with Fools Gold, still spreading the word about Day n Night and partying his ass off. I remember when I saw Cudi rocking this angry face Bape crew neck in the mag, I instantly had to hear his stuff, and even tho Day n Night was pretty much his only song at the time on his MySpace, I was instantly hooked and a fan from there on.


And on a sadder note, this was Mass Appeal's 2nd to last issue, they had to shut down operations, so don't kill yourself trying to find one.
